4 Winter Household Cleaning Tips

4 Winter Household Cleaning Tips

Keep your home clean this winter with these tips!

You’ve heard of spring cleaning, but why wait until spring when you can get a lot of cleaning done around your home in the winter? By the time spring comes around, you’ll be ready to get out of the house to enjoy the weather. Use winter as a time to get some chores done that you may have been putting off. Here are a few winter household cleaning tips to get you started!

Clean Your Furnace

Aside from changing your furnace filter once a month, you should give your furnace a thorough cleaning by removing any dirt and grime that has accumulated throughout the year. Also, vacuum dust that you see underneath your furnace to make it run much more efficiently for your home.

Carpets and Floors

Throughout the winter, you’ve probably tracked in some dirt and mud from the snow and slush. Also, salt from your shoes will collect in your carpet fibers and melt onto your hardwood floors, leaving unsightly residue when it dries. Use steam cleaning techniques for your carpet and give your hardwood and tile a good scrub. Be sure to place a floor mat near your door to help keep much of this type of grime from tracking further into your home.

Dusting

Warm, dry air creates the perfect environment for dust to accumulate. This is a simple task that, although it can be tedious, doesn’t take too much muscle. Removing dust from your furniture, appliances, decorations, and ceiling fan blades will also help increase the air quality in your home. Use a dry, clean cloth to gently wipe these surfaces to remove the dust, bringing your home back to a beautiful shine.

Kitchen Ceiling

The next time you step into your kitchen, look up at your ceiling. It’s a surface that’s often forgotten but necessary to clean, especially in kitchens. There are so many splashes, spatters, and squirts that can happen while you’re cooking that some could have reached your ceiling, leaving unsightly marks. Try using mild dish soap and warm water with a sponge to remove those marks.
