How to Get Rid of Scuff Marks on Wooden Floors

How to Get Rid of Scuff Marks on Wooden Floors

Get rid of your scuff marks today with these tips!

It’s a common occurrence for every homeowner that has wooden floors anywhere in their house — the issue of removing scuff marks. They don’t cause much damage to the floors in the same way that scratches and scrapes do, but they are still unsightly, and the question of the best way to remove them has puzzled people for years. Residential cleaning habits help your home stay beautiful for your family and guests. Here are some techniques you can use to remove scuff marks from your hardwood floors.

Use an Eraser

Scuff marks can come from anything, including shoes and furniture. The first great solution on our list is using a normal pencil eraser. You can use one that comes on a pencil or the bigger version that may be easier to handle for removing the marks. Repeated use can dull protective finishes, so you may have to reapply if you’ve used this technique several times.

Oil Spray

Using a product like an oil or water-displacing spray will not only remove the marks but add some shine to the floors as well. Use these products sparingly as it could cause your floor to become slippery.

Rubber Shoes

Put on your favorite pair of rubber-soled shoes and take out some energy on those scuff marks. Try using a twisting technique or rubbing the shoe back and forth over the marks. If you have lightly-colored floors, avoid using black rubber-soled shoes.

Baking Soda and Toothpaste

On a clean, damp cloth, apply some baking soda or toothpaste. These are known to be very mild abrasives and are strong yet gentle enough to remove the marks without damaging your floors. You can also use an old, soft-bristled toothbrush to remove the marks.

Eraser Pads

There are a few household cleaning pads that are known for their grime and mark erasing powers. Follow the instructions that come with the pad to gently wipe the marks from the surface of your floors. Some suggest using a little water and elbow grease.
