- Begin the cleaning process by shutting off your computer and unplugging your keyboard from your computer. This will prevent you from typing unnecessarily or causing damage to your computer. It will also allow you to move away from your desk if needed.
- Take your keyboard and turn it upside down. Begin to gently shake your keyboard so that any loose particles or crumbs can fall from between the keys. You can also use a can of compressed air to help move dust and other debris from in-between the keys.
- There are two ways to continue cleaning from this point. If you are trying to clean quickly, take a disinfecting wipe and run over the keys of your keyboard. A second wipe may be needed for heavily used areas. If you have time to complete a full cleaning, take a small, flat object like a screwdriver or butter knife to begin removing the keys. Once removed, use rubbing alcohol or soap and water to completely clean your keys. Set them along a clean towel to dry.
- You can now use a compressed air can to clean the base of your keyboard. Once you have removed the dust and debris, gently wipe with a disinfecting wipe.
- Once the cleaning is complete, apply a small amount of pressure to snap your keys back into place.
