How to Improve the Air Quality of Your Business

air quality

Improve the air quality in your business and your employee will thank you.

Air quality is important for the health and well-being of your employees. There are steps you can take to enhance the experience of everyone that comes in. Commercial cleaning ensures a thorough job as professionals have the products and equipment to make it happen. It’s a necessary part of office maintenance that will make a bug difference.

Floors

It’s probably not the first place you’d think of when it comes to air quality in your business, but floor care maintenance has a direct impact. Chemicals and other allergens will accumulate over time in your flooring. In addition, people will also transfer dirt from their shoes onto your floor. If your business has carpeting, use a vacuum with a HEPA filter to reduce lead and other toxins in your space. On tile or hardwood floors, mopping is a great way to get dust and allergens off the floor. To keep them out, use mats near doorways that people can wipe their shoes on before entering.

Humidity

Interior moisture in the air helps keep dust mites and mold happy and in the atmosphere of your business, affecting the air quality. Maintain humidity levels between 30 and 50 percent to keep those elements and other allergens from disturbing your employees and business partners. Control indoor humidity levels by fixing leaky plumbing, using an exhaust fan in the kitchen or break area where employees prepare food, and bring in a dehumidifier.

Smoking

Make your office a non-smoking environment. Not only does smoking leave a lingering smell and cloud up the air, it pollutes the air with up to 4,000 chemicals. Cigarette smoke has been found to directly impact people with asthma and other respiratory illnesses. Provide an outdoor area away from the entrance and windows where smokers can have cigarettes.

Radon

Radon is a colorless and odorless gas that increases the risk of lung cancer. It’s a naturally occurring gas that comes from a breakdown in uranium from soil, rock, and water. It usually finds its way into the office through foundation cracks or holes. Test to find out if radon is affecting your business’s air quality.

Natural Solutions

Use plants and natural fragrances to enhance and freshen up the smell in your office. Let fresh air in through open windows and use lemon and baking soda to clear out unsavory scents.
